Your maturity reflects on your relationship

Believe it or not, maturity plays a huge role in a relationship. A lot of people have the misconception that maturity works hand in hand with age. Not true. Age is not a measure of maturity. Maturity is measured with knowledge. It’s important to understand how your maturity can affect the way you comprehend and handle certain concepts that are needed in a relationship.

When I first met my boyfriend, I had no intentions in getting into a relationship. At that time in my life I had decided to take a break in dating. I was unhappy with my previous relationships. I knew what I needed, what I wanted, what made me happy, but I wasn’t getting that. Well my boyfriend and I started talking and as time passed, we found a growing interest for each other. We mutually agreed to be in a relationship. During the beginning, we were still in the process of getting to know each other. Like every typical couple we would of course have arguments.

Boy Meets Girl

I was 21 years old at the time that we met.  I wish I could say that I knew he was the one that I was meant to be with but that was NOT the case.  There is a saying that goes something like this: “You wanna make God laugh? Make plans.” I did make plans.  I was going to be married to a tall dark and handsome man with a nice sized home, a perfectly manicured lawn, three children, and maybe a gold fish (I don’t care for dogs) all by the time I hit the age of 27 or 28. Things didn’t quite turn out that way and I am sooo glad they didn’t.

Alright, alright, I am guilty of everything that Dony my Fiancé said. Wow fiancé, a new word I have to get use to, but I have a feeling by the time I get use to it, it’ll be the time I start calling her my wife. Ok, enough about that.

There are some things that Dony left out of her story, so I thought that you guys deserved to hear my side. So once she said yes, I promise that a tear came down and I had to quickly say to myself “man up Johny”. When she got the chair, I asked her after she said “yes” to my proposal what it meant, well I told her this in Creole but I will see if I can translate in English. Basically I told her the chair meant “To put your behind here, because you’re not going anywhere”. I know, I know it doesn’t sound like much but I did have her laughing.

Hi everyone this is Dony and this is actually my very first post on Relationship DJ. Johny has been a trooper in holding it down while I’ve been studying. I am very grateful unto God for putting such a wonderful man in my life and I pray for all my readers that you too can find that special someone.  Now I know that I said this would be my very first post  but I want to retract that and rather say this is more of a story that I want to share with all of you, so sit back and enjoy the story!

Ok!! you guys I know I have kept you guys waiting for a while now. The entire wait was due to my first class in grad school being so time consuming by writing papers, case studies and exams. Ok, well I am done with that class now so here’s the rest of the story.
